Hans Haacke born Cologne, Germany, 1936. Studied at Staatliche Werkakademie in Kassel 1956 to 1960.  Lives in New York since 1965. Taught at The Cooper Union for Science and Art, New York, 1967 to 2002. Solo exhibitions: Tate Gallery, London (1984); New Museum, New York (1986); Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris (1989); Deichtorhallen, Hamburg; Akademie der Künste, Berlin (2006); Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid (2012). Participated in Documenta (1972, 1982, 1987, 1997, 2017) and biennials in Venice (1978, 1993, 2009, 2015), Tokyo (1970), Sydney (1984), São Paulo (1985), Johannesburg (1997), Whitney, New York (2000), Gwangju (2008), Sharjah (2011), Mercosul (2013), Lyon (2017).
Public commissions: Reichstag building and Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, Berlin; Fourth Plinth, Trafalgar Square, London.
Awarded Golden Lion (with Nam June Paik) for German Pavilion at Venice Biennale in 1993.
